7.  ESCHER, M.C. Original bookplate for A.M.E. van Dishoeck. Wood engraving by M.C. Escher. [1943]. Paper size 9,5 x 7,6 cm. The wood engraving measures 8,1 x 6,0 cm. With a thin wisp of glue at the upper side attached to the flyleaf of the book Aanvaarding by Herman Koolhoven. Bussum, Van Dishoeck, 1946. Cloth with dust jacket. 68 p. First edition. A bit browned.

* A.M.E. (Guus) van Dishoeck (1892-1973) was the son and successor of famous Dutch literary publisher C.A.J. van Dishoeck. The wood engraving shows a closed book with a small furnace and a heraldic shield, with oval text 'A.M.E. van Dishoeck/ Ex libris'. Bool 329. 

8.  ESCHER, M.C. Original bookplate for G.H. 's-Gravesande. Wood engraving by M.C. Escher. [1940]. Paper size 17,4 x 11,0 cm. The wood engraving measures 6,0 x 6,0 cm. On verso a (later?) rubberstamp 'Eenhoorn Pers A' (= 'Unicorn Press A'). Excellent copy on large paper.

* The wood engraving shows an opened book with the text 'Ex libris G.H. 's-Gravesande' and around it a radiant maxim 'Van dichten comt mi cleine bate/ Die liede raden mi dat ict late' (From the 14th century poem 'Beatrijs': 'Poetry gives me little gain/ People tell me to leave it'). In the corners a singing bird, an owl, an inkwell and a lyre. The bookplate was meant for 's-Gravesande's collection of poetry books. Bool 322.
